Charlie Aitken, Executive Director, CEO & Chief Investment Officer
Charlie has more than 22 years of equity and futures market experience. He was the author of the “Ringing the Bell” newsletter and the “Under the Southern Cross” newsletter. He is an expert contributor to the Switzer Super Report and, previously, Alan Kohler’s Eureka Report. He appears frequently on Australian and global finanical media as an expert on Australian equities and global macroeconomic strategy.
Charlie’s career experience includes being a Director and Head of Sydney Sales Trading for Citigroup, Executive Director and Partner of Southern Cross Equities and Executive Director and Board Member of the ASX listed Bell Financial Group.
He is best known for his high conviction, top down and bottom up investment ideas formulated from consistently meeting with listed and unlisted companies, policymakers and regulators.
Etienne Vlok, Portfolio Manager & Head Of Research
Etienne is a experienced portfolio manager and global analyst who previously worked for Melville Douglas Investment Management in South Africa. Whilst at Melville Douglas, Etienne co-managed the Melville Douglas Global Equity Fund, a Morningstar award-winning, concentrated global equity fund with top decile performance over multiple years. From 2010 onwards, Etienne covered global the Information Technology and Media sectors as an equity analyst.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Andrew Strasser, Equity Analyst
Andrew is a global equity research analyst who previously worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in their leveraged finance team in Sydney. In his previous role, Andrew was responsible for modelling and analysing potential leveraged transactions for corporate and private equity clients as part of the bank’s credit approval process. Andrew also completed internships at Grant Thornton Australia and Pitch Partners Brisbane.
Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Economics from the University of Queensland.
Alfie Idiens, Intern
Alfie recently graduated from Cardiff University after studying Economics and holds a Bachelor of Economic and Social Studies. Alfie joined AIM’s internship program and is assisting in global equity research analysis. Alfie has also completed work experience at Sarasin and Partners.
Les Andrews, Chief Operating Officer
Les is a Chief Operating Officer and Operational Risk Manager with over 30 years’ experience building businesses in the Australian Financial Markets. Les has lectured globally on Operational Risk, Leadership and performance improvements, and market conformity. Les has worked in partnership with regulators in Australia to develop sound practices in the Financial Markets. Les has been awarded an honorary degree by the Securities Institute of Australia for services rendered to the Australian Financial Markets.
Most recently Les was employed to manage the spin out of the MST proprietary trading team from UBS, establishing the MST Capital Markets Macro hedge fund in Australia. Previously Les has held roles at Goldman Sachs. Les was employed to facilitate an increase in business activities for the proprietary trading room including reviewing the IT infrastructure, create effective reporting of existing risk and emerging risks. Les also served as the Chief Operations Officer Asia Pacific – for Dresdner Bank AG from February 1997 – February 2001.
Gemma Yeates, Distribution & Marketing
Gemma has spent ten years working in financial markets and communications. She started her career with Credit Suisse in equities sales and trading, then moved to Nomura where she spent three years on the equities sales desk. Before moving to AIM in October 2017, she worked for financial communications firm FCR in investor relations and business development. Gemma holds a Bachelor of Commerce (applied finance)/Business Management (business economics) from the University of Queensland and a Certificate in Business Sustainability Management from the University of Cambridge.
